My personal art is vulnerable, challenging, and intense. Now more than ever I feel compelled to make art focusing on humanizing trans people in a world that wishes we didn’t exist.

WE EXIST WE’RE RIGHT HERE. REMEMBER US WHILE WE ARE ALIVE.

This kind of art is needed now more than ever. That’s where you come in! My hope is to move bigger and bigger audiences, but that requires even more time and money.

Statement

Razelle is a life-long artist who makes work that boldly fuses mediums to generate impact. She believes social change requires radical self-expression, powerful storytelling, and deep human connection -- not rigid containers. Her projects range from gallery exhibitions to political street theater; from graphic design to creative collaboration design; from modern dance to national TV ads. She loves big picture thinking and rolling her sleeves up to learn new skills. And she intuitively leans on satire and wit to create audience connection in her work.

She is also a trans woman. Her current artistic exploration is in creatively and courageously documenting her transition to help humanize the transgender experience in the context of a world that seems to prefer she didn't exist.

She's currently the resident Art Director of Narrative at Take 3 Presents, a large-scale immersive events organization. Prior, she was the Creative Director at RepresentUs, directing and producing a range of videos viewed tens of millions of times around the world.

Projects & Performance

She loves when creative ideas leap out of the mind and into the physical world -- onto the stage, into the streets, or intermingling with people in their daily lives. She's always working on something subversive or offbeat. Many things she can't capture, but some she can:

EXHIBITIONS

The art world can feel stuffy and inaccessible, so she likes to build her own bridge by creating immersive exhibitions and bringing in local artists to participate on a theme.

She and her co-producers turned a gallery into a convenience store where all the art was "products" making commentary on capitalism and the corruption of value. Over 40 artists participated. Sold-out two week run at the Pro Arts Gallery in downtown Oakland, CA.

Taking over the Nexus Center in downtown San Francisco, she gathered work from two dozen artists to reflect the raw anxiety of the politicization of our bodies.

filmmaking

It's hard to beat the magic of the camera for storytelling. She loves carefully crafting each moment on a set to help make ideas come to life. And she loves how no matter how tightly planned a shoot is, there are always emergent creative problems to solve and unplanned moments that breathe freshness into a vision.

Visual Design

She is in awe of the creative universe of digital design and the way it challenges her with its infinite opportunity. How can you tell a whole story in just a static image? Colors, font, lines and the connection between them. Through her work as a designer, she has learned the ways that beautiful simplicity can convey complex meaning.

Creative Process Design

Leading big, bold collaborations isn't easy, but she thrives in designing processes that are both inclusive and effective. Her happy place is bringing groups of people together and conjuring their creativity — whether or not those people consider themselves creatives.

She leans on her big picture thinking to understand the needs of a creative system.

She draws from her deep experience community building to ensure that creative systems are responsive to real human needs and input.
